Immigration Bill Sleeps, For Now.

The immigration bill’s current defeat was an example of the pathetic nature of politicians in America today and the monumental change in the political climate of the electorate.

First, the politicians, they have no clue of how the landscape has changed over the last 10 to 15 years. My guess is that most of those who make their living as senators and congressmen have no idea how to get on the net, let a lone surf it. After all, they have people to do their menial tasks. They seem to have no idea how fast information travels in today’s American culture. Therefore, they were unprepared for the speed in which opposition mounted against their evil deed. From the safety of my bunker, I imagined these collaborators worked out a timetable by which they could introduce, debate and pass the bill before most Americans even knew what was in it. That is how things were once done in the good old days. And most who occupy the US Senate are good old boys from the good old days.

Enter the electorate. The day, even the hour, the compromise bill was announced, the average politically inclined person, like myself, jumped on the Internet and made his or her voice heard. Snail mail takes days to arrive and phone lines can be jammed making it difficult to contact a politician. By the time the old forms of communication could have reach the capital, a bill was mostly passed, if not already law. No longer! The net allowed constituents to contact their representatives and senators within minutes or hours. I composed my emails in the car on the drive home from work. The emails went out before I settled in for the evening.

It is said senators in support of the immigration amnesty bill were stunned by their defeat. Well, why not? These people are so out of touch with their own constituents and the American culture. The future belongs to the politicians who can figure out the new, connected America.

Our Best Deserve Better!

It must be confusing to be serving our country these days. I do not envy those brave, gallant people, though I do appreciate them and wish I were young again so I could join them.

What has happened to us as a country? We have some of the best in our nation fighting to keep the bad guys from hitting us on our doorstep, or worse, in our homes, and we blast them at every turn. I do not care if you are against the war!! I believe the war was won but the winning of the peace has been handled so badly I want to slap a bunch of politicians, starting with the oval office. But I support the men and women doing their best to win this thing and I will do nothing to undermine them. Too bad Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the anti-war crowd do not feel the same. They do not care how many of our military personnel are killed so long as they win their political argument. Some would call that murder, others treason.
