The Origins Of The Universe

Once-upon-a-time, in a universe far, far away, there was a cloud of hydrogen and a cloud of oxygen. Since they could remember, the two clouds existed peacefully, a coexistence of mutual respect and kindness. They had no reason to even contemplate their origins, just took it for granted that they had always been and would always be. But that all changed. No one really knows what happened to alter this congenial relationship. Nor can anyone explain which of the two entities was the first to provoke the incident that eventually led to it all. Nevertheless, it happened. The two former friends became embroiled in a feud that turned violent. So much so that there was a horrific explosion tearing them apart.

The gaseous debris created by the quarrel was hurled countless kilometers from the center of the confrontation. Eventually, the gases began to form inorganic bodies, grouping themselves together in galaxies and solar systems. Peace reigned once again, albeit, at the cost of the total destruction of the two clouds.

Then, quite by accident, on one spherical body revolving around a gigantic hot mass of assorted gas, some of the inorganic material transformed into a single cell organic organism. And, for no particular reason, the cell divided. It was such a pleasurable event; the cell did it again, as did its domestic partner. Well, the cells enjoyed this dividing thing for quite some time. However, eventually it became tiresome. Therefore, they sought new forms of pleasure, resulting, the evolution into complex cell structures.

After billions and billions and billions of years (The complex organisms had begun to track time by the number of revolutions their frail spherical home circled the gas mass.) they took on a sense of their own existence. Some of the complex organic creatures developed the capacity for rational thought. Somehow, they were able to throw off their natural compulsions in favor of a more highly developed sense of the universe. With this new found ability, they created and built and even stretched out into space in search of their origins. Perhaps they might even find the remnants of the two gaseous clouds that created them.

But no, instead they stumbled onto a planet, the third from its particular mass of flaming gas. There appeared to be other life forms which had developed similarly to them. So they landed and began to examine these unique complex cell structures. Unfortunately, it did not take them long to realize, after limited contact, that the living organisms on this planet were pitifully under-evolved. They had little concept of the great cloud creators. Hence, they fled the planet and the system. Though not before posting a warning to any other species evolving in the universe that might venture near. “Beware of this planet. The dominate species is a dumb as an unevolved rock.” But the visitors could not know the damage their brief presence had on the hapless multi-celled organisms. For the inhabitants had grossly misunderstood the visitors, setting them back thousands of years in their evolutionary journey.

And that is how the myth of the existence of God came to planet Earth.
