The blogs are filled with speculation that Fred Thompson, currently actor and former Tennessee senator, might jump into the presidential race. Any who listen to Tennessee talk radio know that Thompson started showing up during the recent senate race between Corker and Ford and more than likely garnered significant votes for Corker in what was a tight election. However, with the election past, Thompson continues to popup on radio programs to give his opinion on various issues. One might think he is trying to keep his name in people’s minds.

The fact that Thompson’s name is starting to gain traction testifies to the weakness of the current presidential field among the Republican base. Many do not want the election to come down to voting for the lesser of two evils or holding their noses (something many Tennessee conservatives know about, note the afore mentioned senate race). Fred Thompson has a limited political profile but strong conservative credentials, a plus as seen in Obama’s rise. If he has a clean personal life, he can win and win going away.

Timing is everything. He will have to get in before any of the other candidates appear to be the winner otherwise, the momentum will carry the frontrunner to the nomination. But, also, he must wait as long as he can. The less time he must endure the scrutiny of the liberal press the better his chances are of going the distance and defeating the Democrat nominee.

To get up every morning and go to jobs we hate?
Lives we can't stand?
Doing things that bore our minds into a state of comatose?
Can someone tell me the mind of God? I’d really like to know!
