Chinese Crap…A Rant!!

I bought new Christmas lights. Had to, the ones I purchased last year would no longer work. Every year I throw out a string or three of lights. Change the bulbs, you say. Yeah, right. I spent an hour taking out one light and replacing it with another and never found the bad light. Not only are the lights I purchased cheap junk, they are frustrating cheap junk. Then it hit me this year and I actually looked at the label; Made in China!!

Sure enough, this year one of my strings crapped out on me. Have you ever tried to find the offending light bulb in a string of lights tucked behind a ton of tinsel and ornaments? It is a pain in the rear quarter. I tried inserting another string through the branches but that was just as hard. Now, this morning, I see that I have another string with a bad bulb or more!!

The whole affair has caused me to start to read labels closer on all the stuff as I shop this Christmas season and I have noticed a disturbing trend. I cannot find much that does not originate in China and most of it is crap, cheap, junk, future garbage can fodder. And there is a good chance the products are hazardous to my health, lead coated killers. What in the name of free enterprise are we American consumers doing to ourselves? Here is the thing, we look for price first and, apparently, never ask if it is going to last beyond the first use. Talk about a throw-away society, we are now fully entrenched in one until we change our mindset and begin to look for long-lasting quality and price over just price.

One step I have determined to take; next year I will use a type of lights which are easier to determine which is the offending light when they poop out on me! Unfortunately, it will probably have to be made in China.
