Where Are Our Leaders?

What does it take to be a leader in a free society? We, as a country should be asking that very question. Except, I don’t believe we are.

Counting parents, we have all seen them in the malls and grocery stores. They are the ones with the misbehaving children who yell then start counting. The idea seems to be that, when they arrive at a specific number, the child will stop misbehaving. It rarely works, to the chagrin of those of us who witness the episodes.

Enter the new Democrat controlled congress. They want to stop the war on terrorism abroad. I guess they prefer to fight it here where they can get a closer look. Anyway, I digress. So what does this band of brave leaders do? They count, pass a non-binding resolution which does nothing more than present those killing our troops with the political ammunition they need to continue.

How quickly we forget. The Vietnam War was lost on the day the American press declared the Tet offensive a victory for the Communists. The American military did not lose one major battle in Vietnam and still the American politicians surrendered. We are now poised to repeat history.

We were attacked by terrorists. President Bush responded. If those in leadership in the Legislative branch do not agree with his actions then let them propose a strategy for dealing with terrorism. Has anyone heard them enunciate such a strategy? No, they just count.
